Endurance Training

Having good sport endurance means not only being as good at the end of the game as you were at the beginning, but also having the endurance to participate in your favorite sport throughout your life. It is more than being in good shape. Depending upon your sport, you may need the endurance to run constantly at a steady pace for several hours, or you may need to do repeated sprints throughout an entire day. Endurance may have nothing to do running at all, but may mean the ability to consistently swing a golf club for an entire 18 holes, or throw pitches for 9 innings of a game.

Endurance is the ability to maintain speed, agility, and strength for the duration of your sporting event. Many people believe they can train for a marathon simply by running a lot of miles, but if your body does not have the strength to maintain good running form throughout those miles, your body will suffer injury.

Endurance throughout your sporting life means that you may need comprehensive assessment and individualized exercise programs for flexibility, speed, and strength. As we age, our bodies change and those changes may limit our ability to participate in our favorite sports. Proper assessment and management of those changes can keep you in the game!
