Women's Health

Women’s Health is a special program for women of all ages. Our goal is to assist women throughout the stages of their life as successfully as possible. Through gentle hands on treatments to customized exercise programs, we can help women reduce pain, improve their lifestyle, and maximize their healthy potential. We have a variety of experienced providers to assist women in reaching their goals. Physical therapy, nutritional counseling, and fitness services are available. Programs may be one on one or in group settings depending on a particular person’s needs and goals.

Prenatal

Physical Therapy

Changes in your body are expected as hormone levels adjust and our body grows to prepare for childbirth. Pain does not have to be one of those changes that affects you throughout your pregnancy. You can also take an active role in preparing your body for the upcoming changes and birth of your child. Physical Therapy can help by:

  • Providing relaxing hands on treatment to tight, sore, and overworked back muscles
  • Restoring and maintaining pelvic alignment as ligaments relax and stretch
  • Customizing an exercise program to maintain your fitness level and keep you fit for childbirth
  • Assisting you in comfort measures to improve sleep, help you continue to work or just help get you through the day
  • Giving you self help techniques that are quick and easy to do

Nutrition

Eating well during your pregnancy not only helps your baby but can also help you. It is difficult to take what you read in a magazine or prenatal book and apply that to your particular life. Through nutritional counseling you can learn:

  • How to get the most out of your prenatal diet by selecting foods that offer the highest nutritional value.
  • Tips for eating to boost your energy levels
  • How to manage morning sickness
  • Ways to prevent overeating and gaining too much weight during pregnancy
  • Limiting your cravings and eating well if diagnosed with gestational diabetes

Postnatal

Physical Therapy

Once the baby arrives, it is hard not to devote all of your attention to that bundle of joy. Often times however, pain and other difficulties may keep you from returning your body to the way it was before childbirth. Helping you restore your physical abilities after childbirth is our goal. We can help you:

  • Strengthen weak and overstretched muscles
  • Improve your pelvic floor function
  • Provide hands on treatments for pelvic and low back pain
  • Teach you how to care for your child and not injure yourself

Nutrition

Once your friends have stopped bringing meals to the house after baby is born, how will you continue to care for your new little one and eat healthy? When your child is old enough how will you introduce a nutritional diet to them? Nutritional counseling can help. We provide guidance on:

  • Achieving adequate nutrition while nursing
  • Healthy weight loss
  • Eating for life
  • How to make your own baby food

Nutrition

Healthy eating should be a life-long goal. Often times poor eating habits are developed as children begin to make their own food choices and spend less direct time with their parents. As we age, poor habits stay with us and can limit our energy, prevent us from doing the things we would like to do, and can lead to chronic health problems. Nutritional counseling provides an opportunity to start or improve our eating habits to help us live healthy and productive lives. Counseling can help with:

  • Developing healthy eating habits for children and adolescents
  • Learning to eat for life
  • Weight loss
  • How to cook for only a few now that the children are out of the house
  • Chronic disease management

Fitness

When you are ready to begin exercising, a personal trainer or fitness class can be a good way to start if you are nervous about jumping right in on your own. Personal trainers can assess your current fitness level and help you begin to work out, progress your program and provide that motivation to reach your goals. Maximum Performance Physical Therapy and Fitness also offers a wide range of fitness classes. Classes such as mommy to be yoga, post natal yoga, and silver sneakers are geared toward helping women get fit in a social atmosphere. When you are ready to kick it up a notch, ask an instructor what other fitness classes might be appropriate to try. Should you have any questions or difficulties returning to exercise, our physical therapists can always provide you with a consultation to see if you need to consult further medical treatment, a change in technique, or maybe just jumped into fitness too aggressively!
